GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2010 All-Sportsmanship Team for the spring sports on Wednesday. The award is part of the league-wide initiative to promote good sportsmanship.

Kirk Jesse topped the list of six Yellow Jackets to be honored with his First-Team All-HCAC nod, while Tim Pitro, Casey Kahsen, Keith Wade, Alex Timofeev and Zach Stallkamp were also recognized.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College closed its 2010 campaign with a pair of Senior Day victories on Saturday at Rutter Field against Rose-Hulman. The series win by the Jackets ended the HCAC Championship hopes of the Engineers, while capping DC’s winningest season since winning 19 games in 1999.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that it had selected Defiance College’s Jake Taylor as the league’s Pitcher of the Week. The award is the first for Taylor and the third for the Yellow Jackets this season.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Transylvania, as the Pioneers used the 9-1 and 9-7 victories to complete the three-game sweep over the Yellow Jackets at Craig A. Rutter Field.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Casey Kahsen swatted his team-leading third home run and DC’s top four hitters combined to go nine-of-18 at the plate to help the Jackets outhit Manchester, 14-9, but the Spartans held on for the 7-5 victory on Monday night at the home of the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – A pair of hot-swinging offenses collided at Rutter Field on Friday with the wind howling out, as Defiance and Anderson squared off in the first of a three-game weekend series. When the dust had settled, 33 runs had been scored on 43 hits and AU walked away with a 24-9 victory.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Levi Pauli has been voted by the Defiance College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the third winner of the SAAC Sportsmanship Award. The honor is part of the NCAA’s ongoing Respect Campaign and will be announced every two weeks throughout the remainder of the spring semester.
