GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2011 All-Sportsmanship Team for the spring seasons on Wednesday. The award is part of the league-wide initiative to promote good sportsmanship.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College baseball program saw its 2011 season come to an end on Saturday, with a doubleheader at Craig A. Rutter Field against Mount St. Joseph. The Jackets fell 8-3 and 12-0 to finish the year.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets plated three runs in the sixth inning to break open a 3-3 tie and Andy Habecker held Mount St. Joseph scoreless over the final three frames to preserve a 6-3 victory for DC in Friday’s series opener at Craig A. Rutter Field.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets could not slow the Franklin College lineup on Saturday, as the Grizzlies scored 23 runs on 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Defiance. Franklin held the Jackets to just two hits in a 9-0 victory in the opener, before taking a 14-2 win to finish the sweep.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Franklin plated five runs in the final two frames to edge Defiance in 10 innings by an 8-6 margin at Craig A. Rutter Field on Friday afternoon. The Jackets held a 5-3 lead entering the ninth inning but could not record the final three outs with the lead intact.

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Freshman Brad Kremer launched a two-run home run in the top of the first inning on Tuesday to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead but Bluffton answered by clearing the fences six times en route to handing Defiance a 19-5 defeat.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance was hit with an abbreviated loss on Saturday morning, when inclement weather prevented DC and Transylvania from resuming a game that was called in the seventh inning on Friday night. Saturday’s doubleheader between the two squads never got underway, and has been cancelled.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Stephen Leskow held a powerful Bluffton lineup scoreless through his first seven innings of work on Thursday afternoon at Rutter Field, but the Beavers broke through with a seven-run rally in the eighth to take a 7-2 win over DC in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt.

ANDERSON, Ind. – Anderson used a six-run rally in the fourth inning to erase a 2-0 DC lead and went on to sweep the weekend series over the Yellow Jackets with a 22-8 victory in Sunday’s series finale.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College suffered a pair of losses against Earlham College on Saturday at Craig A. Rutter Field. The Yellow Jacket offense could not solve the league’s top-rated pitching staff, producing just four runs and 11 hits on the afternoon.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Defiance College overcame an early four-run deficit at Adrian College on Wednesday evening to score a 6-5 victory over the Bulldogs. The non-conference win snapped a five-game slide for the Yellow Jackets.
