LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance was hit with an abbreviated loss on Saturday morning, when inclement weather prevented DC and Transylvania from resuming a game that was called in the seventh inning on Friday night. Saturday's doubleheader between the two squads never got underway, and has been cancelled.
The Yellow Jackets fell into an early 3-0 hole, after Transy plated one run in the bottom of the first inning and tacked on a pair in the third. Patrick Masopust put Defiance on the board in the fourth inning, when he roped a double to right field that scored Brent James from second base.
After holding Transylvania scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, DC cut its deficit to one run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center field from Brett Kremer. Transy would respond with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the frame, however, and DC never recovered, going scoreless over the next two innings before the game was called final.
Defiance is scheduled to play at HCAC rival, Bluffton University (14-17; 6-10 HCAC), on Tuesday, April 26, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
