GREENWOOD, Ind. ? The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference unveiled its 2009 All-HCAC Team for baseball on Wednesday. Defiance was well represented on the list, placing five on the all-conference team.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The 2009 season came to an end on a sour note on Sunday, as Rose-Hulman cruised past the Yellow Jackets for a 23-1 victory to wrap up the third seed in the upcoming Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance got a crisp outing from Brad Timofeev on the mound and extended its Rutter Field opponents’ scoreless inning streak to 21-consecutive innings with a 2-0 win over Manchester on Wednesday afternoon. The victory was DC’s second-straight shutout on its home turf.

ANDERSON, Ind. – Defiance battled back from a 9-4 deficit to tie the game at 9-9 in the eighth inning of its series opener at Anderson on Friday, but could not finish off the rally and fell by a 12-9 margin.

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – After having the HCAC contest between Defiance College and Manchester College rained out two days in a row, the two teams finally took the diamond on Thursday with the Spartans earning a 10-2 win.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Defiance pounded out four home runs and scored nine of its 14 runs in the first two innings of Wednesday’s non-conference game at Earlham. Nick Picciano handled the rest, pitching seven strong innings in the 14-3 victory.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College hosted the University of St. Francis for a single non-conference contest on Saturday and fell by a 7-3 margin. The Cougars homered on the first pitch of the afternoon and never trailed in the game.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket bats never got on track in Saturday’s doubleheader against Franklin and the visiting Grizzlies exited with 9-1 and 6-1 victories to complete the series sweep. Defiance managed just one run on four hits in each game and only five runs in the entire three-game set.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance and Bluffton locked up for an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel on Tuesday at Rutter Field, with the Beavers holding off a ninth-inning rally from DC to scrape out the 2-1 victory.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance scored in each of the first five innings and held on for a 10-7 victory in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at HCAC-leading Transylvania. The Jackets avoided the sweep, after TU took a 9-2 win in the opener.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Defiance broke loose for seven runs in the final three innings of Friday’s HCAC opener but could not overcome an early nine run deficit and fell by a 13-7 score at Transylvania.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Kirk Jesse tripled home a pair of runs and later scored on an Aaron Stewart single to give Defiance a 3-1 lead over the No. 24 Adrian Bulldogs on Wednesday night, but the home team would rally for the 14-4 victory.

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The 2009 home opener for the Defiance College baseball team provided plenty of fireworks, as the Jackets batted around in two separate innings and put 13 runs on the board. The offensive onslaught would not be enough however, as Albion pounded out 15 runs on 20 hits for the victory.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Defiance allowed just four earned runs in a pair of contests against Wooster and Wilmington on Thursday afternoon but committed 12 errors on the day and lost 8-1 to Wooster and 11-6 to Wilmington.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Defiance picked up its third-straight win with a 6-1 victory over Skidmore in Tuesday’s opener. The Jackets could not make it four-straight wins however, suffering a, 3-2, extra-inning setback in the second game of the doubleheader.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Defiance began its eight-game stint in Port Charlotte, Fla., with victories against Becker and Ohio Wesleyan on Monday. The win over Becker was the 600th victory in the history of the DC baseball program, while the OWU win moved the Jackets to 2-2 on the season.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Defiance shook off a sluggish season-opener on Friday to play a thriller at Maryville on Saturday. The Jackets knotted the score in the top of the ninth, only to see the Scots get a one-out single to plate the winning run in the bottom half for the 5-4 victory.

DANVILLE, Ky. – The 2009 season got off to a very rocky start on Friday evening for the Defiance College baseball team. The Jackets racked up nine errors in their first time out and fell by a 23-5 score at Centre.
