DC Track Places Two on Academic All-District Team

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College’s Samantha Higdon and Brad Zarembski were each named as ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-District IV selections. The honor is voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

DC Competes at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Defiance College track and field team sent a handful of athletes to compete in Indiana University's Billy Hayes Invitational this weekend. The Jackets had a pair of individuals record top-six finishes, as Blake Witherspoon and Brad Zarembski each scored in the meet.

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its Track and Field awards last week, as Defiance College had 12 athletes earn individual recognition following their performances at the 2009 HCAC Championships.

Trivett Paces DC at Multi-Event Meet

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Austin Trivett won the decathlon at Defiance College’s first-annual Multi-Event Meet on Saturday, scoring a personal record 5,496 points. Goshen College’s Abri Houser claimed the heptathlon with 3,867 points in the two-day meet.

Lady Jackets Grab Five Event Titles in Second-Place Finish

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance women’s track and field team recorded its highest point total, 132.50, since 2003, finishing a close second to Manchester College at the 2009 HCAC Championships. The Jackets fell just 1.50 points shy of its fourth HCAC title since joining the league in 2000.

Jackets in First Place After Opening Day

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team racked up 52.50 points in the opening day of the 2009 HCAC Championships, leading all conference schools heading into the final day of events. The Jackets will look to use this momentum to carry them to their fourth HCAC crown.

Rolander and Trivett Garner HCAC Weekly Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Marlea Rolander and Austin Trivett each garnered individual titles at the Spartan Classic on Saturday and have been named the HCAC Athletes of the Week. Defiance has now tallied nine of the 20 weekly honors awarded this season.

N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Emily Cole, Marlea Rolander and Kaitlin Switzer each claimed an event crown at the Spartan Classic on Saturday, helping the Defiance College women record 13 top-ten finishes at the meet held on the campus of Manchester College.

Tooley Named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior Amanda Tooley garnered All-Ohio honors for the second consecutive year and has been tabbed as the HCAC Field Athlete of the Week. Defiance has now earned the conference weekly honor seven times this season, four more than any other HCAC institution.

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Defiance College women’s track and field team finished tenth at the 2009 All-Ohio Outdoor Championships on Saturday, totaling 27 points in the meet. The Jackets tallied six All-Ohio performances on the afternoon, their highest total in over three years.
