DC Track Has 12 Receive All-HCAC Honors
GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its Track and Field awards last week, as Defiance College had 12 athletes earn individual recognition following their performances at the 2009 HCAC Championships.

Holly Stein and Marlea Rolander headlined the group of DC athletes receiving mention from the conference. Stein won her second-straight HCAC Most Outstanding Field Athlete honor, after repeating as the discus and javelin champion while also earning a second-place finish in the shot put. Rolander grabbed the Jackets' second HCAC Most Outstanding Freshman Athlete award in as many years, setting a Cook Stadium record on her way to top honors in the 110m hurdles and taking home a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes.
Eight other Defiance athletes claimed event titles at the conference meet to garner All-HCAC accolades, highlighted by Brad Zarembski's third-consecutive high jump crown. Emily Cole defended her 2008 pole vault crown, earning All-HCAC honors for the second year in a row. Amanda Tooley garnered All-HCAC honors for the first time in her career, winning the hammer throw with a personal-record toss of 144-05. Justin Perkins became DC's first HCAC champion in the steeplechase, while the men's 4x100 relay team of Brian Badenhop, Trey Harris, Ryan Perry and Blake Witherspoon cruised to a HCAC event title with a season-best time of 42.58.
Kristin Goldstein and Austin Trivett earned All-HCAC Honorable Mention recognition, after each scored in five different events at the meet. Goldstein scored in three individual events and as a member of two relays, highlighted by her second-place finish in the 100m dash. Trivett finished third in the javelin, while grabbing a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 110m hurdles and the high jump.
