DC Claims Three Individual Titles at Spartan Classic
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – Emily Cole, Marlea Rolander and Kaitlin Switzer each claimed an event crown at the Spartan Classic on Saturday, helping the Defiance College women record 13 top-ten finishes at the meet held on the campus of Manchester College.

Rolander made her mark on the sprint events, dominating the 100m hurdles by nearly two seconds on her way to top honors with a time of 15.47. The freshman sprinter also finished fourth in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 28.12.
Cole cleared 9-05.75 to win the pole vault, a mark that tops the HCAC outdoor performance list by nearly six inches. Switzer set a personal-record to win the 1500m, besting her previous mark by nearly ten seconds with her time of 5:07.91.
Holly Stein once again showcased her all-around talent, grabbing top-three finishes in three separate events. The sophomore thrower finished second in the javelin (101-02.00) and third in the shot put (38-03.75) and discus (120-11.00).
Amanda Tooley, the HCAC hammer throw leader, finished third in the event with a toss of 136-04.00, while Laura Derov recorded a toss of 36-01.25 to end up fifth in the shot put.
Kristin Goldstein was second in the 100m (13.25) and fifth in the javelin (85-05.00), while Kristin Goodson finished fifth in the 400m. The 4x100 relay team made their way onto DC's outdoor top 10 list, crossing the line in 52.95 on their way to fourth-place honors.
The Jackets return to action next weekend, April 24-25, when they will compete in the HCAC Championships on the campus of Rose-Hulman. DC will look to garner the school's fourth conference championship since joining the HCAC in 2000.
