Throwing Events Power DC to Third Place at Manchester Invite
N. MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track and field team tallied 136 points on its way to a third-place finish at the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, April 4, claiming four individual crowns in the meet.

DC got another impressive group of performances in the throwing events, as DC's throwers racked up 69 points on the day. Holly Stein led the way with 22 points to her credit. The sophomore finished second in both the discus (121-11.00) and javelin (98-09.00), while earning third-place honors in the shot put with a throw of 37-00.50.
Samantha Higdon won the hammer throw with a toss of 132-11.00, the best mark in the HCAC this season by nearly three feet. Laura Derov and Bria Gendron finished third and fourth in the javelin respectively, while Amanda Tooley garnered fourth-place honors in the shot put. Jessica Lipstraw recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes in the discus (102-10.00) and hammer throw (121-02.00).
Marlea Rolander won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.63, having posted the top 110m hurdles time in the HCAC in each of the past three weeks. The freshman also finished third in the 100m with a time of 13.71. Emily Cole won the pole vault for the second time in her last three meets, clearing 8-06.00.
Kaitlin Switzer was the only other Jacket to earn an individual title, winning the 5000m with a time of 20:03.51 to take home top honors in an event for the second-straight week. Kelly Neff recorded a third-place finish in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:37.20.
Gendron scored in three different events, finishing third in the high jump (4-08.75) and seventh in the 100m to go along with her honors in the javelin. Kristin Goldstein finished third in the 200m with a time of 28.26, while teaming with Neff, Kristina Goodson and Courtney Lantz to tally a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
The Jackets will be back in action next weekend, April 11, when they compete in the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. Events are slated to kick-off at 10:00 a.m.
