Lady Jackets Grab Five Event Titles in Second-Place Finish
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Defiance women’s track and field team recorded its highest point total, 132.50, since 2003, finishing a close second to Manchester College at the 2009 HCAC Championships. The Jackets fell just 1.50 points shy of its fourth HCAC title since joining the league in 2000.

DC had another successful HCAC Championship meet, tallying over 100 points for the sixth time in the school's ten-year tenure in the conference. Defiance claimed five event crowns on the weekend, as it has now won an event in each of its ten HCAC Championship meets.
Holly Stein grabbed two titles at this year's meet, making a serious bid for her second-straight HCAC Field Athlete-of-the-Year honor. The sophomore won the discus with a personal-best toss of 130-01, while posting a mark of 117-08 to win the javelin.
Marlea Rolander also left her mark on this season's meet, winning the 100m hurdles and earning a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes. The freshman, who set a Cook Stadium record Friday, cruised to a victory in the hurdles with a time of 15.64, while posting the fifth-fastest time in school history (27.40) in the 200m.
Kristin Goldstein scored in five different events for Defiance, highlighted by her second-place finish in the 100m with a time of 13.00. The junior sprinter placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 27.38, while finishing seventh in the javelin. Goldstein also teamed with Rolander, Bria Gendron and Courtney Lantz to place fifth in the 4x100 while joining Lantz, Courtney Swabb and Kelly Neff on the Jackets' sixth-place 4x400 relay team.
Jessica Lipstraw recorded her highest career finish at the HCAC Championship, placing third in the discus with a toss of 108-05. Kaitlin Switzer finished fifth in the 1500m and seventh in the 5000m, while Neff was fifth in the 800m and eighth in the 400m hurdles. Laura Derov rounded out the scoring for the DC women, placing sixth in the javelin with a throw of 98-11.
