Tomoletz named WHAC Defender of the Week for second time in 2024
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - For the second time this season, Defiance College junior Jaelyn Tomoletz (Perry, Ohio/Perry) had been awarded WHAC Defender of the Week after two stellar outings guarding the net for the Yellow Jackets, the conference announced on Monday.
Tomoletz registered 13 total blocks over two matches last week beginning with seven during DC's postseason-clinching win over Lourdes. Among the seven blocks were six solo blocks by Tomoletz, which tied a program single-match record. On Friday, the 5-10 middle knocked down seven more opponent attacks in a loss to Siena Heights. Those two matches were the 12th and 13th contests this season in which Tomoletz logged four blocks or more. Tomoletz also converted 11 kills during DC's 1-1 week to finish the regular season.
The player of the week award is her second this year after earning the WHAC's first defensive award of the season, and it is the third player of the week award of her career. Tomoletz is tied for fourth in the WHAC with 110 total blocks this season and is tied for first in the conference with 42 solo blocks. With her 110 total blocks, she is the first Defiance volleyball player to surpass 100 blocks in a season since Marlea Rolander in 2011 (114 blocks).
The Yellow Jackets begin WHAC Tournament play on Monday with a visit to Madonna at 7 p.m.
