Volleyball splits at DePauw Invitational

The Defiance volleyball team went 1-1 at the DePauw Invitational, defeating Anderson 3-1 and then falling to DePauw 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

• Defiance took the first set after a back and forth match, 25-22.
• Anderson answered winning another hard fought for second set, 25-22.
• The Yellow Jackets regained the momentum and went on to win the last two sets, 25-18 and 25-21, to secure the win.
• Leading Defiance was sophomore Olivia Rayk and senior Mackenzie Benham each notching 11 kills.
• Sophomore Kayla Boettger added seven kills during the match.
• Senior Brianna Wheeler guided the attack dishing out a game-high 29 assists.
• Senior Tre'Ana King led the Yellow Jacket defense with a game-best 23 digs.
• Tess Perdue led Anderson with 12 spikes on the afternoon.
• Kaycie Gates handed out 21 assists to lead the Anderson offense.

• Defiance tallied 46 kills, 39 assists, 72 digs, and nine blocks.
• Anderson notched 42 kills, 40 assists, 74 digs, and 12 blocks.

How It Happened

• Defiance got off to a fast start with a dominating win in the first set, 25-18.
• DePauw wouldn't flinch and won the next three sets to take the contest, 3-1.
• Freshman Kaylynn Wellman led Defiance with eight spikes.
• Freshman Jamia Murray and Boettger each added four kills during the match.
• Wheeler aided the Yellow Jacket offensed with 13 assists.
• King led the defense with a game-high 26 digs for Defiance.
• Sarah Herman led DePauw with ten kills.
• Grace Filburn guided the DePauw attack with 23 assists.
