ADA, Ohio – Defiance College could not pull out a victory in the season-opening Ohio Northern Tournament, as the Jackets were swept by No. 10 ONU before falling in four sets to Thomas More on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's slate started with a showdown between DC and the tenth-ranked Polar Bears. The Jackets got strong offensive showings from Marlea Rolander and Chelsea Ludeman but still suffered a 25-16, 25-8, 25-20 defeat. Rolander led the way with nine kills and two blocks, while Ludeman went for seven kills in 13 swings for a .385 attack percentage.
The fourth and final match of the tournament for the Yellow Jackets pitted them against a very talented Thomas More squad. DC forced a fourth set but fell by the 25-16, 25-7, 21-25, 25-15 margin. The Napoleon High standouts were the story for Defiance once again, as Ludeman swatted 11 kills on a .320 clip and Rolander added eight kills.
Defiance (0-4) will look to right the ship next weekend, when it hosts the 11th-Annual DC Invitational on September 10 and 11. DC will open up the eight-team event with a 1:00 pm clash on Friday against Concordia.
