Women's track sets multiple PRs at WHAC Championships

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Defiance College women's track team concluded the program's first WHAC Championship meet on Thursday and Friday at Siena Heights' O'Laughlin Stadium.

While the team finished ninth among the team competing, a number of runner clocked in their best times of the season. Zawadi Debola raced her fastest 1500 meters of the season at 5:25.19 and finished 15th. She was also part of the 4x400 meter relay with Mira Horvath, Shelby Clements and Israa Khamis who ran a season-best 4:12.00 for a sixth-place finish, finishing two spots shy of a national qualifier spot. Rakel Thompson finished her 200 meters in 26.19, her personal best of the year. At the 400 meter distance, Horvath posted a top-10 time in program history with a 59.25 and 10th-place finish, which was an NAIA B standard time. Khamis also PR'd her 400 meter time at 1:04.02 while as did Adeline Niyonkunda in the 800 meters with a 2:53.00.

In field events, Lynsey Pease tossed a 8.69 meter shot put and Amira Knight completed the long jump at 4.72 meters for a personal best.

Indiana Tech won the team championship for the seventh consecutive year.

Mira Horvath was the team's representative on the WHAC Champions of Character Team, and Shelby Clements was named Academic All-WHAC as part of the conference awards ceremony.
