Defiance College finds success in weekend finale

ATLANTA, Ga. - Yellow Jacket track & field added to their day one successes at the 2025 Emory Spring Break Classic on Saturday with an additional 10 personal records broken or set, and seven top-5 section finishes. The weekend competition was hosted at Emory University's Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Ga. 

Israa Khamis (400 Meters), Mira Horvath (800 Meters) and Tyjon Mance (400 Meters) were standout performers for the purple and gold as each runner held the No. 1 spot in their respective sections. Horvath – who led the team by competing in six events throughout the weekend – boasted a time of 2:25.11 in the 800-meter dash, which is just 0.90 shy of the DC record. 

Zawadi Debola's and Adeline Niyonkunda's 800 meters, and Lynsey Pease's shot-put mark earned top-5 marks in their respective sections. Pease threw for 8.90 meters, which is her strongest toss through both the indoor and outdoor seasons, thus far. In men's field events, Cole Armstrong's performance in shot put made for a third-place flight mark. 

Friday featured six individual bests in the 200-meter dashes for Defiance College, as well as the outdoor season's first attempts at the 4x400 relays for both the women and men. 

Women's Track Results

  • 400 Meters: Israa Khamis, 1:06.36 (54th, 1st in section); Shelby Clements, 1:05.79 (52nd)

  • 800 Meters:  Mira Horvath, 2:25.11 (17th, 1st in section); Zawadi Debola, 2:42.09 (49th, 5th in section); Adeline Niyonkunda, 2:55.73 (65th, 3rd in section) 

  • 1500 Meters: Zawadi Debola, 5:42.59 (25th)

Women's Field Results

  • Shot Put: Lynsey Pease, 8.90 Meters (55th, 4th in flight); Amanda Barnes, 7.79 Meters (64th); Mira Horvath, 7.63 Meters (66th)

  • Long Jump: Mira Horvath, 4.36 Meters (48th); Amira Knight, 4.25 Meters (55th)

Men's Track Results

  • 400 Meters: Tyjon Mance, 50.88 (24th, 1st in section); Zyon Woods (Did Not Score)

  • 800 Meters: Eli Fortman, 2:11.32 (72)

  • 1500 Meters: Eli Fortman (Did Not Score)

  • 3000 Meters: Jake Stephens, 10:51.57 (33rd)

Men's Field Results

  • Discus: Cole Armstrong, 26.37 meters (72nd)

  • Shot Put: Cole Armstrong, 10.55 meters (56th, third in flight)

UP NEXT

The Defiance College track & field programs will make the short trip to Tiffin, Ohio for the Tiffelberg Open on Friday at Hoernemann Stadium.
