Bio
Juan Scott is in his second season as Defiance’s Cross Country/Track and Field assistant coach after joining Coach Rollins in 2023.
Scott was a prolific college athlete with a long list of achievements at Central State. He was a six-time USTFCCCA Division II All-American and two-time D-II national champion. He claimed the 2018 title in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships and secured the 110m hurdles at the outdoor nationals in 2017. He was coached at Central State by Coach Rollins as well. In 2018, Scott was honored by HBCU Digest as their Male Athlete of the Year following his sophomore season in which he went undefeated in the indoor 60-meter hurdles before earning All-American honors in the outdoor season. He was also a two-time regional Indoor Athlete of the Year.
After college, Scott ran semi-professionally and began coaching high school runners at Thurgood Marshall High School in Dayton. He was the head cross country and track coach at Thurgood and mentored multiple indoor state qualifiers and outdoor regional qualifiers.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Scott graduated from Dunbar High School in 2015. While there he helped Dunbar to a pair of state championships in track and also won back-to-back state titles in the 4x200m relay. Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation from Central State in 2020.
