
Defiance Shutout By Bluffton, 3-0
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College women's soccer team lost 3-0 against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio.
DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College women's soccer team lost 3-0 against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio.
The Yellow Jackets (2-12, 1-4 HCAC) offense produced quality shots in the first half, but were unable to land one in the back of the net. Four out of DC's five shots in the period were on goal, but were all saved by the Bluffton (7-8, 3-3 HCAC) goalkeeper. Two of the shots came off the foot of sophomore Katie McGlacken (Canton, Mich./Canton). Bluffton took advantage of the solid defensive effort with their first goal at the 21:30 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Bluffton then added to their lead with a second goal coming during the 29th minute making the score 2-0. The Jackets had one final scoring chsnce just before the end of the half when sophomore Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) took a hard shot from the right wing, but the shot would miss it's mark. The teams entered intermission with Bluffton ahead, 2-0.
During the second half, Defiance added to its scoring chances with seven quality attempts. Memmer took her second shot of the evening three minutes into the second half, landing it in the goalkeeper's hands once again. Bluffton then padded its lead at the 54:08 mark to make it a 3-0 game. DC kept the pressure up putting several shots on net during the remainder of the period, but were unable to cut into the three-goal deficit as the Beavers went on to the 3-0 final.
In net for the Jackets was senior June Delgreco (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood). Delgreco started and played the entire 90 minutes and had 14 saves.
Defiance will host Mount St. Joseph University in a HCAC game on Saturday (Oct. 24) as part of a soccer doubleheader with the Yellow Jacket men's soccer team on Homecoming Weekend. The women will kickoff against the Lions at 1 p.m. at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
