Boroff, Vance place top 20 at WHAC Fall Preview
AUGUSTA, Mich. - The first conference match as members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference saw a pair of Defiance Yellow Jackets in the top 20 of the women's Fall Preview at Stonehedge North Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Reigning All-HCAC golfer Winter Boroff finished just outside the top 10 with an 11th-place finish followed by Isabelle Vance in 16th. Boroff delivered the lowest round of the fall season for a Defiance women's golfer when she carded a final-round 78 on Tuesday after rounds of 85 and 83 on Monday. Boroff finished with a 246 for the tournament while accomplishing her second sub-80 round of her career. Vance came one stroke shy of her career-low with an 81 in the second round, which was the lowest score on the team for Monday's second round. Vance closed the 54-hole event with a 251.
Emily Momany turned in cards of 107, 115 and 113 to close the tournament 54th with a 335. Braylin Shaner started with a 123 and whittled down to 121 and 114 over the next two rounds, closing at 358. Hailey Becker completed the tournament with a 393 with rounds of 140, 110, and 143.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets finished 11th among the 13 WHAC programs. DC's 1,179 composite was the program's third-best 54-hole team score. Lawrence Tech held the top team score with a 935 (308, 321, 306) as they built upon a second-place finish at last spring's WHAC Championships. Last year's conference champion Sharifah Binyahya from UNOH took the top spot as individual medalist with a three-round total of 227 (76, 75, 76), three shots better than Cadance Beuckelare of Lawrence Tech.
The Yellow Jackets have two more tournaments left before the close of the fall slate beginning with an 18-hole event at Cleary on Oct. 7.
