Craft named WHAC Pitcher of the Week
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College senior softball player Anika Craft (Radnor, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) was named WHAC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts during the team's trip to Florida at the Space Coast Spring Games.
Craft made four appearances in the cirlce during the team's travels, all in games decided by two runs or less. She tossed 18 innings and struck out 18 hitters during her last three outings and surrendered just two earned runs for an ERA of 0.78. She fired five scoreless frames in relief in last Monday's 3-1 win over Waldorf, striking out seven hitters. She took the ball again the following evening and took a tough-luck, one-run loss in which the University of Fort Lauderdale no-hit the Yellow Jackets in a 1-0 ballgame. Craft avenged that defeat on Friday by pitching DC to a 2-1 victory during a complete-game, one-run effort in which she also recorded three hits.
Craft is currently 3-4 through eight outings with a 2.50 ERA and has struck out 36 hitters in 42 innings of work. This Pitcher of the Week Award is the fifth of her career at DC and the first-ever softball weekly award since joining the WHAC.
The Yellow Jackets return to action with their WHAC opener on Friday against Cornerstone.
