New-look wrestling program sets 2024-25 schedule
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Led by a new coaching staff for the upcoming season, Defiance College wrestling announced the program's 2024-25 slate on Wednesday.
After not competing in 2023-24, Defiance College returns to the mats Nov. 10 with a trip to Case Western Reserve to begin a new chapter of wrestling for the purple and gold. The Yellow Jackets will also be competing for a conference title for the first time since wrestling came back to Defiance during the 2018-19 season. Unlike the HCAC, the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference sponsors a wrestling championship in which DC's grapplers are eligible to compete on Feb. 15. Four of DC's scheduled wrestling matches will be open competitions at Case Western, Findlay, Alma and Henry Ford College. These open competitions will allow the Yellow Jackets to build experience and see a unique blend of competition levels.
2024-25 Wrestling Schedule
Nov. 10 at Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open (Case Western Reserve University)
Jan. 19 at Alma Open (Alma College)
Feb. 1 at Whizzer Open (Henry Ford College)
Feb. 15 at WHAC Championship (hosted by Cornerstone University)
Quoting Coach Henderson
"We are mostly competing in opens this year. I am excited for our guys to go compete and see what it is all about at the college level. With DC Wrestling going back to the NAIA this year, we will build the program into one that can compete and win a lot of matches at that elevated level."
