HOWELL, Mich. – In the first conference matchup as members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the Defiance Yellow Jackets suffered a 3-0 loss to the Cleary Cougars at Lake Trust Stadium on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2, 0-1 WHAC) were limited to 11 shots compared to 24 as the Cougars (2-1, 1-0 WHAC) applied pressure throughout the contest.
THE TURNING POINT
For the second match in a row, Defiance's opponent struck for two quick scores. The first was an own goal mistake in the 11th minute followed by Jack Heald scoring four minutes later to post a 2-0 advantage for Cleary.
A CLOSER LOOK
- Anthony Tomaszewski led the offensive attack for Defiance by taking five shots including three on goal.
- Keeper Zach Canterbury stopped 9 of 12 shot attempts by Cleary.
- Cleary held an 11-1 advantage on corner kicks.
UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets travel to Fort Wayne for a non-conference affair at Saint Francis on Tuesday. Kickoff against the Cougars is scheduled for 7 p.m.
