Jackets continue busy week on the links at Lourdes Spring Invite
OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. - The Defiance College men's golf team continues to ramp up towards the WHAC Championship at the end of the month with their second of three events this week. On Wednesday, the Yellow Jackets competed at the Lourdes Spring Invite at The Legacy Golf Club and finished 10th out of 13 teams.
Sam Theissler led the Yellow Jackets for the fourth straight event this spring and posted a top-10 finish in an 83-player field. The freshman posted his third straight round of 77 and has shot 4 of 6 spring rounds below 80. While using a birdie on his way to a 39 on the front nine, he posted a two-over-par 38 on the back nine to solidify the round. He finished just five strokes behind the leaders' 72, shot by Cornerstone's Landon Wanless and Indiana Tech's Miguel Gonzalez Sanchez.
Jordan Walford shot an even 80 that included a 39 on the front nine as well. He led the team with two birides on the day. He was followed on the team tally by Alex Moritz, who shot an 84. Both Brenden Garvin and Zack Palmer carded rounds of 91 to round out the team scoring for the Yellow Jackets at 332.
DC also had four individuals compete in the event. Bretton Basford finished at 91, Sam Boyles shot 93, Brodee McMahan went for 95 and Cooper Sloan carded a round of 101.
Defiance travels to Bluffton on Friday and Saturday for the UNOH Spring Invitational at Bluffton Golf Club.
