Defiance had two early leads before Franklin opened up its largest advantage of the first half, 44-29, with just under four minutes left. Down 46-38 at halftime, the Yellow Jackets scored the first two points of the second half to pull within six, but could not get within that margin the rest of the way.
The Grizzlies ended at 55.6 percent (35 of 63) from the field while DC shot 44.1 (26 of 59). From three-point range, FC made a sizzling 11 of 17 (64.7 percent), compared to 7 of 23 (30.4) for the hosts. Defiance tallied 17 assists and 10 turnovers with Franklin finishing with 12 in each category. The Yellow Jackets were outrebounded, 39-23.
Leading the way for DC was Marell Jordan, who collected 18 points and a game-high five steals. Tyler Andrew contributed 15 points and Jack Kolar 11. Off the bench, Jabryis Heidelburg posted career bests with 18 minutes, four rebounds and a game-high four assists without attempting a field goal.
Defiance drops to 0-3 overall this season while the Grizzlies are 2-3. The Jackets travel to play FC on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Franklin, Indiana.
