The loss brings Defiance's record to 8-15 overall, with a 7-9 HCAC mark. After the contest, DC stood firmly in fifth place in the HCAC standings. With just two games remaining, the Yellow Jackets will continue their push for HCAC postseason action Wednesday, Feb. 13, as they welcome Earlham College to the Karl H. Weaner Center
LEXINGTON, KY. - The Defiance College men's basketball team made the trip south to HCAC foe Transylvania on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers prevailed in the contest by a final score of 87-67.
Sean Tyson (Columbus / Centennial) continued his stretch of strong offensive performances with 16 points against the Pioneers. Noah Goodrich (Oregon / Genoa) went four of six from beyond the arc for 12 points on the day. Micaiah Cox (Ft. Recovery / Ft. Recovery) and Tyler Andrew (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence Central) each tallied 10 points in the affair.
The home side struck first in the contest, and via strong basketball on both sides of the court, never relinquished the lead. A Jordan Maschino (Bradford / Covington) jumper broke open the score sheet for DC just two minutes into the action.
As the teams battled into the locker rooms, a pair of Matthew Cline (Fostoria / Elmwood) and Tyler Andrew layups wrapped up scoring for DC as the sides headed to into the break at a 46-31 Pioneer lead.
The Yellow Jackets were off to a strong start in the second half, grabbing the first four points of the period. Despite DC's efforts, the Pioneers were able to hold onto their lead and wrap up the HCAC contest.
The defeat drops DC's record to 3-20 overall with a 1-14 HCAC mark. The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 13, as they travel to Earlham College for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
