WHAC named Gregg Pitcher of the Week for shutout effort
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College senior Gunner Gregg (Graytown, Ohio/Oak Harbor) was named WHAC Pitcher of the Week following a standout performance on the hill in Friday's victory over Rochester Christian.
Gregg held the Warriors off the board in a narrow 1-0 victory at Defiance High School and finished with a one-hit shutout complemented by nine strikeouts. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and had a string of 10 straight hitters retired at one point. While logging a career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts in just his third-career start, Gregg record the first individual complete-game shutout by a DC pitcher since March 21, 2019. It was also the program's first shutout win of any kind since March 12, 2020.
Gregg is now 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17.1 innings this season after not pitching since high school until he took on the closer's role last spring.
For Gregg, this is his second-career weekly conference honor and the Yellow Jacket baseball team's second weekly award this season (Tim Bobek, Feb. 17).
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wright State-Lake for a single contest at 3 p.m.
