Nies, Vischer represent DC baseball among all-conference honorees
CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference revealed the 2023 All-Conference Awards and All-Conference Team recipients on Wednesday with two Defiance Yellow Jackets, pitcher Cohen Nies and infielder Josh Vischer, among the league's honorable mention.
For Nies (Logansport, Ind./Lewis Cass), a graduate senior, it is his fourth all-conference selection and third honorable mention. He led the program in innings with 70.2, which was fifth-most in the HCAC through the regular season. He also finished the regular season ranked seventh in the conference with 60 strikeouts, which were second on the team. Early in the season, the right-hander eclipsed the program's career records in both strikeouts and innings pitched in the same game on March 17 by passing the previous marks of 253 innings and 258 strikeouts. After the season came to a close, Nies finished with 310 strikeouts in 309.2 innings.
The honorable mention for Vischer (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa) is his first athletic all-conference recognition after leading DC in hitting (.312) and on-base percentage (.375) with the second-most hits on the team (34). He wrote himself into the DC record books on April 12 vs. Ohio Wesleyan when he compiled the 10th five-hit game in Jacket baseball history.
