Pair of grand slams doom baseball against MSJ
The Defiance baseball team was defeated twice by Mount St. Joseph on Friday afternoon with the final score in both games being 13-6.

Game 1
Inside The Numbers
- Senior Nate Kaffenbarger went 3-5 and scored twice.
- Senior Lucas Thomeier went 2-4 with a home run and scored two runs.
- Sophomore Hunter Bostater hit his second home run of the season.
- Freshman Jacob Hild drove in two runs.
- Senior Cohen Nies took the loss, his first of the season.
- Tyrell Anderson went 4-5 with a homer, a double, and four RBIs.
- Ryan Murray went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
- Andrew Harrison had three hits for Mount St. Joseph.
- Jacob Hughes started for the Lions and went eighth innings and struck out seven.
The Difference
- The Lions scored three times in the first two innings to take a 3-0 lead into the third.
- Thomeier got the Yellow Jackets on the board with a solo shot in the top of the third.
- Mount St. Joseph added runs in the third and fifth before Bostater launched a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to close the gap to 5-3.
- Anderson gave the Lions breathing room with a grand slam in the bottom half of the inning to bring the lead to 9-3.
- The hosts added four more runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
- Defiance scored three runs in the eighth but could not catch up with the Lions.
- Mount St. Joseph outhit Defiance 17-9.

- Sophomore Mitchell Roever went 2-3 with a double and scored a run.
- Sophomore Trent Murdock hit a solo home run, was hit by a pitch twice, and stole a base.
- Freshman Hunter Hamilton drew three walks and scored twice.
- Freshman Sam Thombs took the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
- Tyler Herbers had three hits, a double, and two RBIs.
- Anderson hit another grand slam in the second game.
- Ryan Caulfield recorded the win for the Lions.
The Difference
- Defiance got on the board first when Hild drew a walk with the bases loaded but the Lions responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
- Thomeier tied the game with an RBI single in the second before MSJ retook the lead with an RBI single in the bottom half of the frame.
- In the fourth inning Thomeier singled up the middle to tie the game at 3-3, however, the Lions again retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
- Murdock homered to left field in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, Anderson hit his second grand slam of the day to give the hosts an 8-4 lead.
- An RBI infield single by senior Alex Morr and an RBI double by Bostater made the score 9-6 in the top of the eighth but the Lions broke the game wide open in the bottom of the inning with four runs to put the game out of reach.
- Defiance tallied a season-high 14 hits but three errors along with four walks and two hit batters ultimately doomed them.
