FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets Baseball team fell to Otterbein 8-1 after a late innings push under the lights Thursday night in DC's only game on the day.
The game was a low scoring pitching dual until Otterbein (3-1) broke open the game with six runs in the final innings. DC (5-3) fell behind early to a lone Cardinals run and the game remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when Otterbein added what proved to be the winning run.
Defiance cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the sixth inning but the one run was all that DC could put on the scoreboard for freshman starter Matt Clark (0-1), who picked up the loss in his fourth appearance and first start for the Purple and Gold.
The game broke open in the late innings as the Cardinals plated a run in the seventh before getting five more runs of insurance in the ninth to put the game out of reach for Defiance.
The Yellow Jackets will look to rebound with a double header on Friday against the Coast Guard Academy to close out Defiance's spring trip to Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. with a pair of seven inning games on the docket.
