DC Falls to Wittenberg
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Defiance traveled to Springfield on Wednesday night to take on the Wittenberg Tigers in a non-conference game. The Yellow Jackets only trailed 6-4 through five innings, before taking the 17-4 loss.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Defiance traveled to Springfield on Wednesday night to take on the Wittenberg Tigers in a non-conference game. The Yellow Jackets only trailed 6-4 through five innings, before taking the 17-4 loss.
Defensive miscues hurt Defiance once again after five Yellow Jacket errors opened the door to 13 unearned runs. Wittenbergs first six runs were unearned, as well as seven of its last eight tallies.
Tim Pitro pushed his batting average over the .400 barrier on the season with two more hits and an RBI. Pitro now stands at .402 through 26 games and has a .481 on-base percentage. Kirk Jesse and Ben Gates also had multi-hit games to lead the offense.
The Yellow Jackets used seven pitchers in the loss. Jimmy Lucas and Nate White each tossed a scoreless inning, while Robbie Lakes also had a scoreless appearance.
Defiance will have Thursday off before beginning a busy weekend. The Jackets will play a single game at Anderson on Friday before hosting the Ravens for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm. DC seniors David Jackson and R.J. Chidester will each be honored prior to the start of Saturdays action.
DC will also host Ohio Northern on Sunday afternoon in its final home contest of the 2008 campaign.
