Engineers Complete Sweep of Defiance at Rutter Field
DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance hosted Rose-Hulman in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Rutter Field, falling 12-0 and 13-1 to the Engineers. The second game was called after five innings due to inclement weather.

DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance hosted Rose-Hulman in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Rutter Field, falling 12-0 and 13-1 to the Engineers. The second game was called after five innings due to inclement weather.
DC managed only two hits in the opener, as Michael Matsui tossed six scoreless innings for Rose-Hulman and Ben Stenger worked the seventh to complete the shutout. Tim Pitro and Brad Timofeev came away with the Jackets only two hits of the game.
In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman broke the game open with four runs in the top of the third and added eight more in the fifth. The teams began play in the top of the sixth, before lightning forced the game to be called.
Trey Harris led the offense in the second game, reaching safely twice on a pair of bunt singles. Harris also scored Defiances only run of the day after racing home on a Kirk Jesse double in the fifth inning.
Defiance will be back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Bluffton at 4:00 pm.
