PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- Sophomore transfer, Brad Timofeev, turned in a sparkling effort from the mound on Monday to help the Jackets post a 5-0 victory over Fontbonne. Timofeev allowed just one hit and threw only 77 pitches against 24 batters faced as he dominated the seven inning contest.
Timofeev (1-0) matched zeroes with Fontbonnes hurler through the first three innings before DC broke through with a two spot in the top half of the fourth. That would be more than enough for Timofeev, but the Jackets added another in the fifth and tacked on two more runs in the seventh to secure the 5-0 victory.
Four different Yellow Jackets crossed the plate in the victory with David Jackson scoring twice, and Phil Kosier driving in three runs.
The story was the commanding performance of Timofeev as the Oregon, Ohio, native mowed through the Fontbonne lineup with an average of just 11 pitches per inning. Timofeev retired two batters on strikes and faced only three batters above the minimum in the seven-inning, one-hit showing.
Things did not go quite as nicely for Defiance in the first game, as Fontbonne scored twice in the first and second innings and cruised to the 13-2 victory.
LeTroy Harris had two of DCs four hits in the game and combined with Mike Hill to score the only two runs. Lenny Koesters went 1-4 with an RBI and Tim Pitro added a base hit.
Defiance (1-3) will take on Ramapo on Tuesday as it continues its spring trip at Port Charlotte, Fla.
