
Horvath and Stephens lead DC for second week, both set individual season records at Tiffelberg Invite
TIFFIN, Ohio - Mira Horvath and Jake Stephens led the Yellow Jackets at the Tiffelberg Invite at Tiffin University for the second week in a row, both having their best outings of the season.
In the women's 5k, Horvath earned the top spot for Defiance with a time of 21:47, which was 2:37 faster than her first race of the season Aug. 30. She placed 51st overall at the invite, 15 places ahead of the Yellow Jackets' Zawadi Debola, who completed the 5000-meter race in 24:23. Ultimately, the women's team did not place.
When the men hit the course, Stephens secured the top spot of Defiance runners coming in at 19:46 and 51st place. Twenty-three seconds later, Elijah Fortman crossed the finish line in 53rd place with an official time of 20:09. J'Vontae Barnes, Anthony Lawson-Beachum and Kameran Lewis filed in for spots 56, 58 and 60 to close out the race for the Yellow Jackets. Defiance took seventh place with a total score of 210.
Up next, the Yellow Jackets will compete in Warrior Challenge at Wayne State University on Sept. 13 beginning at 6 p.m.
