Bio
Garett Mansfield was named the Director of Athletic Communications at Defiance College in October 2022. He currently oversees the athletic department's digital presence through the athletics website and social media channels and also coordinates all gameday statistics and live streaming. Mansfield has over a decade of media and communications experience from his days in Minor League Baseball and as a broadcaster with local media outlets. He also holds a seasonal role with Major League Baseball that supports Minor League stats entry and data tracking.
Prior to DC, Garett spent time in the front office of three different Minor League Baseball teams with a role in broadcasting and communications. His sports career was launched with the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, San Diego Padres) as the team's Media Relations and Broadcast Assistant and experienced the franchise’s first Pacific Coast League championship in 2016. Mansfield moved on to the post of Media Relations and Marketing Manager with the Beloit Snappers (Single-A, Oakland Athletics) and landed in the Altoona Curve (Double-A, Pittsburgh Pirates) broadcast booth the following season. With the Curve, he was elevated to Director of Communications and Broadcasting after one season and worked with many current and former Pirates during three and half years in Central Pennsylvania. During the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, Mansfield assisted the Pirates' media relations staff by coordinating remote media availability for players and field staff who were stationed at Altoona’s Peoples Natural Gas Field, which was Pittsburgh’s alternate training site. Prior to reaching the minor leagues, Mansfield spent two seasons as a broadcaster and sports information director in the Alaska Baseball League with the Athletes in Action-sponsored Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.
Mansfield stepped away from full-time baseball after seven years and briefly entered the financial industry before moving from Pennsylvania back to Northwest Ohio. Between his return to the Buckeye State and starting at Defiance College, he served as a programming and promotions assistant for iHeartMedia in Defiance as the voice of Green Meadows Conference and Defiance High School athletics on 105.7 The Bull. He has also worked as television play-by-play talent for the West Ohio Sports Network (WTLW TV-44, Lima, Ohio) since he graduated from college.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications at Bowling Green State University in 2015. While at BGSU, Mansfield was heavily involved in the student-run Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization that broadcast Falcon athletics on 88.1 WBGU-FM and WFAL Falcon Radio. He served as BGRSO’s Executive Director during his senior year and gained four years of experience in radio production, sports programming and board operation with both on-campus radio stations.
Mansfield is a Defiance native and graduated from Ayersville High School in 2011. He won two varsity letters in baseball and played basketball for the Pilots.
Garett and his wife, Carlina, have two sons (Walker and Wade) and reside just outside of Defiance. The Mansfields are members of Cable Road Alliance Church in Lima, and Garett is pursuing ordination with the Christian & Missionary Alliance.
