Siena Heights sweeps Yellow Jackets on Saturday
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Defiance Yellow Jackets suffered their second conference defeat of the week with a 3-0 loss to the Siena Heights Saints at Siena Heights Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (8-17, 2-8 WHAC) battled in two tight sets to start the match before the Saints (15-4, 8-2 WHAC) took command of the third set to earn the sweep. Defiance was consistent with 10 kills in all three sets and in fact got more efficient in the attack game as the match went on. DC rallied from down 20-12 in the first set with a five-point streak but could not get closer than a three-point spread.
THE TURNING POINT
After Siena Heights withstood Defiance in the first set, the second set hung in the balance until the halfway point. The set featured eight ties through the 11-11 mark. However, this is where the Saints enforced their will. After a 10-8 Defiance lead, Siena Heights went on to post 12 of the next 16 points to lead 21-14. Defiance rushed back with seven points out of the following 10, but there was not enough room for error before the Saints clinched the second set and rode the momentum through set three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Gabby Rodriguez was Defiance's lone player with double figure kills. She converted 13 of 34 attacks and had just four errors to result in a .265 hitting percentage.
- Jamia Murray followed with six kills and had just one mishit in the contest.
- Shelby Clements guided the defensive side with 14 digs.
Jaelyn Tomoletz was also a defensive factor with three block assists. - Siena Heights also got stronger as the game went on, going from a .196 hitting percentage in set one to a .314 average in the match-clinching third set.

The season continues for Defiance on Friday with a trip to Madonna. First serve against the Crusaders is scheduled for 7 p.m.
