
DC Volleyball Falls to Heidelberg

TIFFIN, OHIO -- The Defiance College volleyball team fell in straight sets to Heidelberg University, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13, in nonconoference action on Tuesday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (1-6) started the opening set down 5-2, but an error was followed by consecutive kills by junior Marissa Windau (Castalia/Margaretta) to square the set at 5-5. After two points from the Student Princes (4-5), two more kills by Windau were followed by another from Jenni Davis (Delta) to give DC an 8-7 edge. From tat point forward, Heidelberg went on a 18-5 run to close out a 25-12 opening set.
Defiance started the second set with a spurt, including two more Windau spikes to take an early 4-2 advantage, but the Student Prines quickly turned it around to a 6-4 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded, eventually taking an 11-9 advantage before Heidelberg scored five straight to take the lead back. The Student Princes never trailed again in the set, as despite DC dropping the deficit to a point on back-to-back kills from Morgan Porter (Defiance) and Emma Seitz (Toledo/Central Catholic), Heidelberg rolled to a 25-20 set two victory.
Early in the third set, Jenni Davis got a pair of kills in an early 4-3 lead, but the Student Princes clearly grabbed a four-point lead and never looked back in taking the final set, 25-13, to finish off a three-set win.
Windau led the offense for the Yellow Jackets with nine kills, while sisters Jenni and Jessi Davis added six and four, respectively. Sophomore setter Madison Hollis (Burlington, Ky./Randall K. Cooper) finished the evening with 25 assists. Senior Jaidyn Patridge (Toledo/Springfield) had a big defensive day for the Yellow Jackets with 21 digs, while sophomore Abigail Cronin (Lambertville, Mich./Cardinal Stritch Catholic) chipped in with 11 pickups.
Defiance returns to action this weekend, as they travel to Circleville for a pair of matches against Ohio Christian University. The matches are set to begin at 12 p.m.
