Volleyball Spits Pair of Matches at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky.  – The Defiance College volleyball team lost their opening match against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania, 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 20-25, 11-15), but rebounded to defeat Kentucky Christian in the second match, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-16).

In the first match of the day, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Chelsea Ludeman's 17 kills. Freshman Alicia Kalik directed the DC attack with 37 assists. On defense, the Yellow Jackets were paced by freshman Jill Turner's 20 digs, while senior Marlea Rolander had six blocks.

Against Kentucky Christian it was Rolander that led the squad with 12 kills. Kalik provided 32 assists in the victory, and sophomore Alexis Pierce tallied a team-best six blocks. Sophomore Christa Seidenstricker added 13 digs in the match.

The next match for the Yellow Jackets is on Wednesday, October 19 at home against Anderson. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm and will mark senior night for Rolander and fellow seniors Jessica Tietje, Meghan Hinds and Michelle Sikora.
