Volleyball Earns Two Wins at Centre College Tournament

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Defiance College volleyball team picked up victories against Marietta College and Kenyon College on day one of the Centre College Tournament. The Jackets beat Marietta, 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 11-25, 22-25, 15-12), and defeated Kenyon, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-21).

In game one, Defiance was paced offensively by senior Jessica Tietje's 11 kills. Freshman Alicia Kalik provided the Yellow Jacket attack with 32 assists, and sophomore Alexis Pierce gave DC a big boost on the defensive end with 12 blocks. Sophomore Christa Seidenstricker ended the game with 18 digs to lead Defiance.

In the second match, Tietje and senior Meghan Hinds combined to lead the offense with 10 kills each. Kalik directed the Jackets with 28 assists, while Pierce and seniors Marlea Rolander and Michelle Sikora gave the Jackets two blocks apiece.

The pair of wins evens the team's record at 5-5. Defiance will take the court on Saturday, September, 16 for day two of the tournament. The Yellow Jackets will play Centre at 10:00 am, and conclude the tournament against Fisk at 12:00 pm.
