Osborne knocks down 19 shots in 1-0 loss to Rochester Christian
Defiance, Ohio - Coming back for their second-to-last home game, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets looked to for their first win of the season but fell just short in a 1-0 loss to the Rochester Christian Warriors on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Taylor Osborne and the Yellow Jackets (0-16, 0-10 WHAC) defense maintained a 0-0 tie for 82 minutes but the Warriors (5-5-6, 4-3-3 WHAC) scraped by in their hunt for the postseason.
The Turning Point
Both teams had chances throughout the game. Defiance had a chance late in the first with a one-on-one with the keeper before a Warrior managed to block the shot at the last second. Whereas the Warriors fired shots throughout the entire game but not many breakthrough chances. Their best opportunity came in the 52nd minute when they managed to get a shot by Defiance but the goal was called off for offsides. The game was trending towards a draw for most of the game as neither team could find a way to break the tie.
However late in the game in the 83rd minute, Sydney Hawks took a shot from outside the box, finding the back of the net and breaking the deadlock. Defiance tried to find a way to break through and level the game again but were unable to do so.
A Closer Look
- Defiance keeper Taylor Osborne recorded 19 saves which was her most of the season beating out her previous high of 14. It was also her third straight start in goal for the Yellow Jackets.
- With the Warriors not scoring until the 82nd minute, Defiance's defensive effort marked the longest the Jackets were able to hold an opposing team scoreless by coming just eight minutes shy of their first shutout.
- Rochester's 55 shots were the most they had taken on the season as they took any opportunity they could.
- Defiance was limited to three shots with one apiece by Destiny Pier, Lexi Coward and Reagan Camp.
