Cardinals outlast Yellow Jackets 3-1
Ann Arbor, Mich. - Chloe Kern put in the Defiance College Yellow Jackets' first goal of the season, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Concordia Cardinals who cruised to a 3-1 victory on Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium Wednesday.
Despite having its most impressive offensive game of the season, the match started with Cardinal momentum. Concordia's Katelyn Aiello put in back-to-back goals to go up on the Yellow Jackets 2-0 all before the 13th minute. Until the 68th minute in the second period, Defiance held strong defensively when Ambryn Diener scored a goal for the Cardinals.
In the 75th minute, Kern's third shot of the afternoon found the back of the net, putting DC on the board for the first time this season. The Yellow Jacket defense continued to hold the Cardinal offense, capping off the day's scoring with Kern's goal.
The Turning Point
After Concordia's goal in the 12th minute of the match, it became a game in the trenches, both defenses prevailing until Diener's score in the 68th minute. Defiance went on to have its most successful offensive outing shooting 16 times — 11 on goal — and earning a goal. Against No. 4 Aquinas on Sept. 28, DC was outshot 61-1, the most on the season.
