DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets took on the Aquinas Saints in a conference game on Saturday afternoon and were shut out, 7-0, by the No. 4 team in the NAIA national rankings.
The Yellow Jackets (0-10, 0-4 WHAC) were unable to find the net while the Saints (7-0, 4-0 WHAC) remained perfect on the season. Aquinas registered 61 shots, including 26 on goal, as reigning WHAC Offensive Player of the Year Sydney Shenk notched a hat trick in the victory.
THE TURNING POINTS
The Saints broke the game open early as they scored first in the third minute followed by two goals in the seventh minute, two of those came from Shenk along with Olivia Bowling bagging another. With this early onslaught, the Saints were able to hold the lead from the Jackets as Shenk ended with her third goal coming in the 26th minute. Defiance's defense held up in the second half as they only allowed two scrappy goals while Madison Hert played a fantastic game between the pipes.
A CLOSER LOOK
- Madison Hert had her most saves yet this season with 19, one-upping her previous best.
- Freshman Creedance Chittenden recorded her first conference start.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to be a disciplined team as they had only 4 fouls to the Saints 8.
