FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Defiance Yellow Jackets women's soccer team's struggles continued in its midweek matchup against the Indiana Tech Warriors at Warrior Athletic Field after facing an eighth straight shutout, 11-0.
Addie Nellis of Indiana Tech (2-5-1, 1-1-1 WHAC) got the night started with a goal in just the third minute of play. Another score came at the start of the eighth minute from Alina Garcia, who broke through the Defiance (0-8-0, 0-2-0 WHAC) defense. Twenty minutes later, the Warrior's Jocelyn Alfonso attacked the goal to put her team up by three — this was her first of three on the night. Indiana Tech had three scorers with two or more goals overall.
The Warriors remained steady scoring the rest of the match, despite the 14 Yellow Jacket saves split between starting goalkeeper Madison Hert (1), Taylor Osbourne (10) and Haley Hughes (3) in her first attempt in the pitch on the season.
The Turning Point
In both the 22nd and 28th minutes, Defiance made a couple stealth advances towards the goal with shots by Reagan Camp and Destiny Pier. Though Alfonso's first goal on the night came between them, Indiana Tech didn't score another consecutive set of goals until the 38th minute.
