DC blanked 3-0 at Great Lakes Christian
LANSING, Mich. – The Defiance Yellow Jackets dropped a 3-0 decision in non-conference women's soccer action against the Great Lakes Christian Crusaders at Henderson Field on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2) have been held scoreless over the first two games of the campaign and will look to lean on a home field advantage in their next match. The Crusaders (1-0) earned a win in their season opener and are now 2-0 all-time against Defiance.
Great Lakes Christian converted two goals in the first half before punching through their third score of the contest with just three minutes remaining in the match. For the game, Defiance registered a season-best four shots and fended off 18 attempts by GLCC.
THE TURNING POINT
The game was delayed for several minutes after Defiance keeper Madison Hert was injured following contact with a Crusader pursuing a loose ball. Defiance turned to Taylor Osborne for her collegiate debut. Great Lakes struck for the first goal of the game three minutes later as Amy Benitez booted the ball through Osborne's fingers. In the 30th minute, Great Lakes added a second goal by Chelsea Waller on a rebound off the keeper's mitts.
A CLOSER LOOK
- Four different Defiance attackers recorded shot attempts in the contest with Alana Harrison, Lexi Coward, Reagan Camp and Creedence Chittenden finding windows to shoot. Chittenden's was the lone attempt recorded on goal.
- Taylor Osborne recorded 78 minutes in goal and recorded 14 saves in her collegiate debut.
- All three corner kicks of the contest were made by Great Lakes Christian.
- It was a relatively clean match with just nine combined fouls and no cards.
UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets host Midway next Saturday for women's soccer's home opener. Kickoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
