
Women's Soccer Concludes Season at Hanover
HANOVER, IND. - The Defiance College women's soccer team concluded the 2018 season with a trip to Hanover College on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the high-powered Panthers by a final score of 6-0.
HANOVER, IND. - The Defiance College women's soccer team concluded the 2018 season with a trip to Hanover College on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the high-powered Panthers by a final score of 6-0.
The Panthers got scoring action underway in the 7th minute of the contest as the home side earned a penalty kick and were able to slot the PK shot past junior Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton).
The Yellow Jackets found their way in behind the Hanover back line numerous times during the first 45 minutes of action. The Purple and Gold earned three corners during the first period, but were unable to convert for a goal.
The Panthers potent attack was able to score five more goals in the remainder of the first half, to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The Purple and Gold created a handful of good scoring opportunities in second half of action. In the 56th minute Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) found some space and hit a shot on frame, forcing the Hanover keeper into a save.
In the 59th minute of play Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Parchment) looked for a chance on goal. The juniors shot also forced the Panther keeper into her second save of the day.
Defensively, Bowman started her 17th contest of the year, making five saves in the match. The five saves bring the junior's season save tally to 136, worthy of second place in the HCAC.
Cassidy Weiss (Centerville / Centerville) also saw action in net for Defiance. The freshman made six saves in her 28 minutes of action.
The match concludes the 2018 season for the Yellow Jackets. Head Coach Jenny Vincent's side finishes 2-15 on the season, with a 2-7 HCAC mark.
