LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY - The Defiance College women's soccer team made the southern trip to Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon and headed home with a 8-0 loss to the talented Pioneer squad.
The hosts were able to break the deadlock just two minutes into the match, taking a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets were able to create a chance on goal in the 25th minute when a Jordan Furko (Swanton / Swanton) shot went just high of the Pioneer goal.
Transy was able to slide three more goals past junior Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Head Coach Jenny Vincent's side came out with more of an attacking presence in the second period of action. The Yellow Jackets tripled their shot total in the second 45 minutes, with shots coming from Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Parchment) and Katie Settich (Huber Heights / Chaminade Julienne). The Purple and Gold were unable to find the back of the Pioneer net during the course of the second period, as Transylvania added four more to their tally.
Defensively, Bowman faced a plethora of shots on the day, with 17 landing on frame. The junior made nine saves, taking her Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leading tally to 120.
The away defeat brings Defiance's record to 1-12 on the year and 1-4 in the HCAC.
The women will return to action on Wednesday, October 17 as they host Manchester for a 3:30 pm kickoff from Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
