A soggy Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field saw Defiance score their fourth goal of the year. After an initial Raven goal, the Yellow Jackets quickly rallied to equalize the contest. in the 28th minute Lauren Oglesbee (Kenton / Benjamin Logan) found Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) who finished the right footed shot past the Anderson goalkeeper. The goal stands as Newman's second of the 2018 campaign, while Oglesbee picks up her first assist of the season.
The competitive match saw Anderson find the back of the net for a second time in the 32nd minute. Yellow Jacket fans were almost treated to a second equalizing goal in the 38th minute via a Kat Wicher (Toledo / Whitmer) corner kick. The well placed ball found the head of Lauren Perry (Northwood / Lake) who flicked the ball on before the Raven keeper was able to make a decisive save.
With a 3-1 Anderson lead on the scoreboard, the Yellow Jackets came inches away from cutting into the deficit. Kiana Carpenter (Holmesville / Triway) found herself with some space inside the 18-yard box when receiving a cross. The junior hit a header with pace that found its way onto the post. An attempted clearance then saw a second Yellow Jacket header from Perry cleared off the line by an AU defender. The quick sequence of action was finally concluded when Sarah Madaras (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Parchment) found the loose ball and fired a shot just high of the crossbar.
Defensively, Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) tallied her 12th consecutive start for the Purple and Gold. The junior made 11 saves on the day, moving her atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference saves leaderboard.
Defiance's record now stands at 1-11 overall and 1-3 in HCAC play. DC will next be in action Saturday, Oct. 13 as they travel to Transylvania (Ky.) for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
