It did not take long for Defiance to begin the winning performance. Just 2:37 into the match junior Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) found the back of the net after an assist came from fellow classmate Whitney Webb (Troy / Troy). The early goal did not deter the Yellow Jackets from continuing the offensive pressure. At the 4:33 mark, the Purple and Gold doubled their lead as Webb dribbled up the field and found the back of the net with a left-footed strike from distance.
With a 2-0 lead Defiance continued to press as they visitors fired five more shots in the first half to bring their tally to seven. The first half saw the Beavers take four shots, while forcing junior Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) into three saves heading into halftime.
With the start of the second half the match began to open up. Bluffton narrowly lead Defiance in the shots category 11 to 10. Bowman was called into action six times to keep the cleansheet alive, while the Yellow Jacket offense continued to press, taking 10 more shots in the second forty-five minutes.
