
Women's Soccer Begins HCAC Action at Franklin
FRANKLIN, IND. - The Defiance College women's soccer team began Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a trip to Franklin College on Saturday evening. The Yellow Jackets fell to the talented Grizzlie side by a final score of 7-0.
FRANKLIN, IND. - The Defiance College women's soccer team began Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a trip to Franklin College on Saturday evening. The Yellow Jackets fell to the talented Grizzlie side by a final score of 7-0.
Franklin got off to a quick start in the match, when the Grizzlie's Maddie Fleet beat Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) in the sixth minute. The home side got on the board once again in the 19th minute, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold Franklin to a 2-0 lead at halftime. The visitors pressured the Grizzlies in the half, taking six shots with five forcing saves from the Franklin keeper.
The Grizzlies were able to capitalize in the second half and open up the score sheet. Five goals in the second period extended the home side's lead to 7-0 to win their first HCAC contest of the year.
Offensively, junior Whitney Webb (Troy / Troy) led the way for the Yellow Jackets, taking five shots on the day. In the goal, Bowman complete another 90 minutes for the Purple and Gold, facing 16 shots on goal and making nine saves on the evening.
The loss brings the Yellow Jacket's record to 0-9 on the season and 0-1 in HCAC play. The side will return to action Wednesday, October 3 as they travel to Bluffton for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
