Women's Soccer Drops Home Contest vs Ohio Wesleyan

DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's soccer team played host to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, and dropped the contest to the Battling Bishops 4-0.

The visitors broke first in the 14th minute as a corner kick bounced in the 18-yard box a few times and ultimately fell to the foot of Maggie Morse who finished the shot. The Battling Bishops would strike two more times in the half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. In the 71st minute OWU's Ashley Smiley made a run into the box and finished the fourth goal on the day for the visitors.

The Yellow Jacket offense was stifled in the match as they took 3 shots on the day. Getting shots off for the Purple and Gold were junior Whitney Webb (Troy / Troy), freshman Maddie Brown (Toledo / Cardinal Stritch), and junior Kat Wicher (Toledo / Whitmer). Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) continued her run in the net for the Yellow Jackets, playing all 90 minutes. The experienced junior faced 19 shots-on-goal during the match, making 15 saves. Today's action takes Bowman's save tally to 63 (.768 save percentage) on the year.

The defeat takes the Yellow Jacket's record to 0-6 for the 2018 campaign. The team will prepare for an away trip on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as they travel to Olivet College (Mich.) for a 4:30 pm kickoff.
