TIFFIN, OHIO - The Defiance College women's soccer team played their first match on the road on Saturday afternoon and fell to Heidelberg University by a score of 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets conceded early to the Student Princes as Heidelberg's Bekah Thomas finished a cross in the 11th minute of the match. The Yellow Jackets created three shots during the course of the match, with two forcing the Student Prince goalkeeper into action. The shots on frame came from juniors Whitney Webb (Troy / Troy) and Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi). The best chance for the Yellow Jackets came with Webb over a free kick. Webb struck the ball and it went just high of the goal in the 53rd minute.
Junior Madi Bowman (Eaton / Eaton) played all 90 minutes in net for the Yellow Jackets. On the day Bowman faced seven shots and made five saves to keep the Heidelberg offense at bay.
The loss drops the Yellow Jackets record to 0-4-0 during 2018. The team will next be in action Wednesday, Sept. 12 as they visit Trine University (Ind.) for a 4:00 pm kickoff.
