
Defiance Held Scoreless by Mount St. Joseph

Defiance (2-14, 1-6 HCAC) fell behind quickly in the first half when MSJ (9-5-2, 4-2-1 HCAC) scored their first goal of the afternoon one minute into play off a head shot for a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets tried to answer two minutes later with a shot by freshman Addy Cooper (Three Rivers, Mich./Three Rivers), but the shot missed wide. The Lions added to their lead with a second goal of the half during the 17th minute to increase the margin to 2-0. Senior Jillian Crowell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Plainwell) recorded the only other shot for DC in the period during the 32nd minute, but the attempt landed in the hands of the MSJ goalkeeper as the Lions led, 2-0, at the break.
Defiance looked to get on the board early in the second half with a shot by freshman Maizy Lepkowski (Perrysburg) that missed wide. The final scoring attempt for the Yellow Jackets was recorded by sophomore Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) at the 60:25 minute mark which was saved by the Lion netminder. MSJ put the game away during the 70th minute with its third and final goal on a header en route to the 3-0 shutout..
Senior June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Crestwood) played all 90 minutes in net for the Yellow Jackets. Delgreco recorded 11 saves, her fourth straight game with 10 or more saves and fifth overall this season.
The Yellow Jackets will be playing in their final home game on Wednesday, Oct. 28 against HCAC opponent Earlham (Ind.) College at Winsper-Knobel Field. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
