
Yellow Jackets Defeated by Transylvania (Ky.)
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women’s soccer team was shutout by Transylvania (Ky.) University, 7-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College women's soccer team was shutout by Transylvania (Ky.) University, 7-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.
The two teams combined for 18 shots, including 10 shots on goal, in the first half. The Pioneers recorded a total of 14 shots, seven on goal in the period, but the play of senior goalkeeper June Delgreco (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Crestwood) held Transy scoreless tallying seven saves. All four of DC's shots in the period came off the foot of sophomore Katie McGlacken (Canton, Mich./Canton). Three of her shots were on net, but all were saved by the Pioneer netminder. After 45 minutes, the game remained a scoreless tie, 0-0.
It was a tale of two halves as the Pioneer offense came alive in the second half. Transy posted seven goals in the final 45 mintues with the first goal coming just over seven minutes into the second half of play at the 52:05 minute mark. The Pioneers tallied their next goal a few minutes later during the 57th minute to increase the margin to 2-0. TU kept up the scoring with goals during the 61st, 62nd, 70th, 78th and 82nd minutes to round out the scoring. Defiance had two shots, one by sophomre Kassie Memmer (Bowling Green) and the other by freshman Maizy Lepkowski (Perrysburg). Memmer's shot was on goal, but landed in the hands of the TU goalkeeper. Lepkowski's shot ended up sailing high as the Jackets were held scoreless allowing Transy to cruise to the 7-0 victory.
Delgreco played the entire game for the Jackets in net. She had a total of 10 saves bringing her season total to 77 stops and is now one save shy of teammate Meredith Remy (Mansfield/Ontario) for the team lead.
Up next for the Yellow Jackets will be an away game at Bluffton University in Blufftn, Ohio on Tuesday Oct. 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
